For the Sumerians Bahrain was a promised paradise, for the ancient world a pearl power, for our present world the first country in which oil was discovered. The tiny Gulf State is not a frequently sought out destination for most travelers. Those who travel there usually do so within a combination trip through several Gulf countries. Yet it is the only country in the Gulf to have  a documented 4800-years-old history as well as many hidden gems. The world public does not know much about them yet however millions of people visit Bahrain each year thanks to the Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix. Altough the event promises only a temporary amusement lives back in the days were much more thrilling every day. Local pearl hunters risked their lives with every dive and wrote records in the depths of the sea without world's media attention. Their return was always impatiently awaited and if successful it became an opportunity for a great celebration. Pearls connected friends, family and communities. Today you can try to catch your first pearl and enjoy its price.

Currency: bahrain dinar (BHD), 1 BHD = 62 CZK (13.3.2020). Banks are usually open from Saturday until Thursday (8AM - 1PM). In the afternoon and early evening you may exchange foreign currency in local souks.
Payment methods: cash and payment cards are widely accepted
Time zone: + 2 hours
Customs: you may import a maximum of 50 cigars, half an ounce of tobacco, eight ounces of perfume and as a non-muslim "adequate" amount of alcohol
Language: the official language is Arabic however you may also speak english and some part of the population speaks Hindi and Urdu
Religion: The official religion of Bahrain is Islam with about 70% of Bahraini claiming to be Shia muslims. The remaining 30% are predominantly Sunni believers. National statistics only take into account the Bahraini population so you will often learn that the population is almost 100% Islamic. Should we include foreign workers the figurewould fall by about a third as there are many citizens from Southeast Asia, India and Pakistan.

Vaccination: none is required and hygienic standards are high however it is always better to have hepatidis vaccination

 

Visa to Bahrain

If you are a foreign national let us know what passport you hold and we will inform you whether or not you are obliged to apply for visa to the Bahrain.

Visa is mandatory for Czech citizens. It can be issued and arranged through us. Passengers will receive a copy of the visa before departure, the original document will be waiting for you upon arrival in Bahrain. A copy of valid passport is required as a basis for issuing the visa and must be delivered to us at least 14 days prior to the trip and a copy of the ticket as well. The basic type of visa is 1 week, in case of a longer stay the visa is more expensive, the fees for the visa must be paid even in case the visa is not issued.

Location

Bahrain with its small area of 665 km2 is the smallest Arab state in the entire Middle-East and North Africa region. The country is located in the heart of the Persian Gulf and is surrounded by Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Iran across the sea. In the south-western part of the island there are sporting opportunities (golf, riding clubs), natural park Arin and beaches for tourists. Bahrain also includes the Hawar Island which is intended mostly for domestic tourism. Bahrain is connected to mainland of Saudi Arabia by a unique bridge which is visible from the plane. This small state can be reached in less than 8 hours of flight from Prague including transfer.

Weather

The weather is the same as in the neighbouring Qatar. Pleasant sunny days and pleasant warm evenings are guaranteed from mid-October to mid-May, in January and February it may be a bit cold. Rains occur from December to February, sandstorms or thunderstorms may occur in the spring months however they are not very common. From mid-June to September it can be extremely hot and very humid at the same time. For all buildings and cars are heavily air-conditioned, therefore most locals like to go to Europe and other parts of the world to cool down.
