Although the mention of skiing arouses astonishment on the face of many traveles it is nothing unusual in Lebanon. The local mountains above the Lebanese coast offer skiing in a total of five resorts, with the following two being the most popular:
Faraya Resort is the most popular and best equipped ski resort 52 km east of Beirut at an altitude of 1874-2465 m offering 15 tracks of varying difficulty (including special and giant slalom), three lifts, 9 cable cars overlooking Mount Hermon and on a clear day to Beirut . In the surroundings you can visit the natural bridge of Kfarzebian, which was created by erosion, a Phoenician temple, Roman tower and a number of entertainment venues.
The Cedars is the highest resort (2320-2700m) 122 km northeast of Beirut in close proximity of a cedar grove. It has been in operation since 1920, has 4 lifts and a cable car. In the surroundings you can visit the picturesque town of Bcharre, the birthplace of the poet Khalil Jibran Khalila, Maronite churches and monasteries in the Qadish Valley. In all cases, it is possible to combine a trip to the mountains with a tour of Beirut, the Jaita Caves or the pilgrimage town of Hariss.
