Sweeter Than Sugar

An afternoon trip starting before sunset will see you embark on a comfortable speedboat along the west coast where you will be able to dance with the Sega dance masters in tunes of ravanes and maravanes. If you are not a passionate dancer you can at least admire the skills of professionals and enjoy traditional delicacies and cocktails with winds caressing your hair.

The entire program starts at 4:30 PM and the expected return to your hotel is around 8:30 PM.

Shopping, nature reserve, water, soil and rum. All the delights of Mauritius can be experienced if you go to the magical south of the island. You will start the program by shopping in the center of the island at Floreal and Curepipe. You will then head to one of the largest natural reserves of Mauritius the Black River Gorges and stop by the sacred Grand Bassin Lake. The highlight of this trip is a visit to the unique Chamarel where you can see the volcanic soil colored in seven mesmerising colors. On your way back you will travel through unspoiled nature to enjoy your lunch as well as authentic Mauritiian rum in La Rhumerie.

In this mishmash of experiences you will travel through the northern roads of the island to the beautiful horizons and picturesque monuments. It all begins with a visit to a local craft workshop where you can watch artists during their work and also visit the showroom with models of famous ships. Afterwards you will make a quick stop at the nearby village of Goodlands where you will soak up the atmosphere of local life and then move on to the north coast of the island to Cap Malheureux.

Botany and nature lovers will also enjoy the program as it includes a visit to The Botanical Garden of Pamplemousses - one of the most renowned and largest botanical gardens in the southern hemisphere. Among other things you will meet up with a local artist at the "Mehendi" workshop, a course dedicated to designing the well-knows cashmir scarfs that Hindus like to wearover their shoulder.

We would never leave you starve so in the middle of the programme we will serve you a Mauritian lunch in the restaurant Tante Athalie whose owner is obsessed with old cars.

You will end this wonderful day full of experiences with a visit to Sugar Adventure where you will be able to enjoy various types of sugars and, of course ... even real Mauritian rum!

Somewhere down in Case Noyale lies a small but magical and authentic coffee factory with a twist of western Savannah. Here the locals clean harvested coffee beans, wash them, dry them and, in the last step, roast them to obtain fresh beans for brewing coffee. If you wish you can buy one on site. You will then move up the hill to the village of Chamarel where you will experience the process of transforming cane sugar juice into rum at La Rhumerie followed by rum tasting. After the tasting you will stay at Chamarel to dine at the charming Lakaz Chamarel restaurant. Located in a unique corner of the Chamarel Forest the restaurant will reveal the secrets of Mauritian cuisine.

The whole trip ends with a visit to an exceptional geological area called Chamarel's Soil of Seven Colors. This volcanic phenomenon is remarkable for the color of its soil.

The meeting point of this exciting expedition is the little port station of Mahebourg where local fishermen gather to begin their traditional daily program. You will embark on small and colorful triangular fishing boat. The boat is driven by wind and supported by a classic engine in case of need. When you set out to the beautiful nearby lagoon of Vieux Grand Port prepare yourself to take the rod into your hand like a true fisherman so that you can demostrate your hunting skills and participate in traditional fishing with assistance of local experts. When the catch is yours you will take it to a nearby restaurant where it will be grilled and served with local rum as an appetizer before the main course in Mauritian style.

The very end of the trip will be dedicated to a visit to a very rare and typical manioc biscuit factory.

For almost two centuries Port Louis the capital of Mauritius was governed by the British Empire and for some time by colonisers from the rivaling France. Both empires left their mark in Mauritius including memories and monuments. Today Port Louis is a symbol of cosmopolitan world. On this trip trough the capital city you will have the opportunity to stroll through authentic streets, visit interesting places and taste various Creole delicacies from local street vendors. Let us mention for example the renowned "dholl purri" (wheat pancake with chutney and chickpeas) or corn puddings and cakes that will definitely tease your taste receptors.

Afterwards the journey will take you to the village of Caro Laliane where you will meet Mr. Seetanah and his wife in the middle of a plantation. They make the best samoussa on the island (delicate stuffed pastry)! Just a few minutes walk away you will reach the house of a Hindu family where we will serve you lunch composed of seven traditional vegetable curry dishes on a banana leaf. It is worth noting that all these meals are usually served at Hindu weddings.

At the end of the trip you will go back in time. At Domaine les Aubineaux, somewhere in the middle of the island, you will enjoy a genuine Mauritian tea in the shadow of a local colonial house.
